'KAO', 2018

Video mapping commissioned for the SSA Mapping Festival (Festival
Salvador International Video Mapping Conference), which took place in 2018 at
Ruy Barbosa Forum.

The Ruy Barbosa Forum is located in Campo da Pólvora, a square where the leaders of the Malê Revolt were sentenced to hang in 1835,
arrested for a racial and religious demonstration against the Empire in search of religious freedom and an end to slavery.
Although this place was extremely symbolic as a memory of those who faced Colonialism, the Forum was named in honor of
jurist Ruy Barbosa, who was responsible for burning all the books with records of the origins of the people who were brought from Africa against their will. This action caused the memoricide of the origins of the ancestors of the
African people who landed in Salvador in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
In response to these historical facts, this video mapping work exalted the architecture of the Forum as a prison, a space that, instead of liberating, can imprison narratives. Through the use of colors, I represented political prisoners and fugitives from the history of Bahia inside it, driven by the sounds of DJ Eugênio Lima, who researches sound narratives through samples and musical overlays and beats.
