'stones I carry', 2016

“Stones I carry” explores the concept of heritage, both historical and emotional, and how we carry with us the weight of our ancestors’ stories, fears and knowledge, as well as the expectations imposed by society, the educational system and family dynamics. The work proposes a confrontation with these “stones”, symbolic elements that we represent and internalize throughout our lives.

In the installation, the suitcase that I carry with me at all times is opened, revealing the stones that we carry inside us. When exposed, these stones trigger a series of patterns and shapes, very similar to the behavior of water, which adapts, flows and molds itself to the environment. Each stone, therefore, represents a fragment of memory, a piece of our personal and collective trajectory.

The work seeks to reflect on the way in which these memories and influences shape us, challenging the perception that the weight of past experiences is something we can simply leave behind. Instead, “stones I carry” invites the public to confront and reflect on what we really carry within us and how this influences our actions and interactions.
