'o retorno do encontro', 2020

“In 2019, inspired by the writings of Ailton Krenak and his collection 'O retorno do encontro', I entered the cartographic archives of the invasion of the territory, which today is called Brazil, and I was very interested in these cartographic records as well as the images, the drawings used to support this colonial lie that Brazil was discovered”.
In the interweaving of art, politics and history, artist Bianca Turner in “The Return of the Encounter” uses maps from the period of European expansion, superimposed with real images of the deforestation of the Amazon that meet with sounds and voices, challenging the logic of colonial discourse, among them Ailton Krenak’s speech at the 1988 Constituent Assembly in Brazil. Her research explores the notion of the archive as an imperialist imposition, the expansion of time-space through the use of audiovisual resources and video projection in relation to the body. {publication of the 40th Arte Pará}
