'Rosas de Maio'

May Roses is a rhizomatic creation of a research process on Novas Cartas Portuguesas (1972), a work written by Maria Isabel Barreno, Maria Teresa Horta and Maria Velho da Costa. Rosas de Maio uses this seminal work as a starting point to dramaturgically weave together a series of new developments, creating a hybrid and polysemic show, a place of possibilities for articulating times and fragments that oscillates between documentary and performance. It is a constellation piece that sets in motion, through expanded cinema, the very materiality of the archive, crossing and rescuing the words and actions of women who throughout history had their speeches censored, torn apart and erased by the oppressive and patriarchal regime.
